Athough sometimes hard to drag yourself away from the peace and calm of Barmoor
there are many attractions locally in the North York Moors, on the North
Yorkshire coast and, if you need a ‘shot’ of the City, York is about an hour's
drive.
In the village of Hutton-le-Hole there is the national award winning Ryedale
Folk Museum portraying the history of life on the moors in imaginative and
entertaining ways.
There are many moorland, woodland and valley walks near by. Fields next to
Barmoor are farmed organically and farm walks/visits
can be arranged.
In Pickering there is the Beck Isle museum and the North York Moors Railway and
slightly further afield but still very accessible are Castle Howard, Rievaulx
Abbey, Flamingo Land and the historic City of York.
The North York Moors National Park is one of the most stunning landscapes in
the country, it will simply make you stand and stare. This is a land where
dreams are made. Here you can experience the vast open space of moorland,
listen to the call of the upland birds, walk for miles and miles or sit and
watch the world go by.
A short ride over the moors to the Yorkshire coast finds Whitby and its
memorable museum and many references to Captain Cook; his life, voyages and
connections to the town.
Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay, Staithes and Scarborough are also easily reached.
